EXCEPTIONAL OAK CASKS contribute at least 80% of the character of The Macallan, with the spirit and sherry seasoning fulfilling the remaining 15% and 5% respectively. Each cask style imparts a specific influence, as does the variety of cask sizes a combination of puncheons, hogsheads and butts Beyond type and size, every single cask has its own distinct provenance. as each is made by a cooper with his own personal approach to crufting and seasoning

BUTTS FROM TEVASA command the overall character of EDITION NO1, specifically green timber notes, chosely followed by the resinous oaky qualities of their puncheons. J & M Martin casks add crystalised ginger and warm spice while those from Toncleria Hudu impart an inimitable dryness, and from Gonzalez Byass seasoning, a green fruitiness Bottled at a higher strength 48% ABV to deliver maximum flavour.
